Rain. Blech.

These guys are the only ones benefitting from today's weather. Rain is falling, falling, falling. And I desperately need some sun because of this weekend's festivities. Which will be blogged about at a later date.

Yesterday, however was splendid. Sunlight streamed down from a Toy-Story-esque sky and made us leave the house for the park without even taking our jammies off. Well, I changed of course, but Becks was perfectly fine to toddle around in his striped bottoms.

All the sun exposure is causing him to turn into quite the little toe-head. Though bull-headed might be a better description of his attitude as of late. I was quite beside myself in the middle of The Dollar Tree today when he refused to put away a ball he grabbed from a shelf. When I asked him to return it, he chucked it out of the aisle and I as I scrambled after it, he grabbed yet another and giggled uncontrollably while I frantically chased ball after ball. All in all, five balls made their escape from aisle two before I decided that the teachable moment was lost and opted to gather them quickly before he created a potential safety hazard. We left the store promptly, I flicked his hand and tried to explain his "naughty" behavior. He responded by trying to "throw the flick" off of his hand. Funny.

Also, if anyone is looking to squander $60 at Barnes and Noble, don't read the return policy (14 days!) and refrain from returning your books during that time. {Backstory: I ordered textbooks from Amazon, panicked when they didn't arrive in a timely manner, searched B&Ns all over the tristate area and bought them. In the mean time, the books arrived *cheaper* from Amazon, life got way busy with the end of school and grad school courses, failure to read the return policy resulted in a doh! moment.} Fortunately, they offered a gift card and Becks got to check out the Thomas train table and everyone was almost happy. I am sure I can find something to buy there, even if it's a skinny frappucino from the in-house Starbucks :)

For the record, I have checked absolutely zilch off of my summer to do list today. The rain really holds things up, as I want to do little more than sip coffee and watch something on the DVR. Which I love, by the way. One day I will wonder what life was like for the four years we spent without cable...

The Start of a Glorious Summer

Not busy at all.

The weekend. The lovely weekend. I forgot, momentarily, what it was like to be at home. With nothing to do. But sip coffee. With my husband. And watch Becks eat frozen blueberries and yogurt with his hands. And not quickly scrub them clean because we have places to be. We even made it to church early today (by 5 minutes!) and I did not have to sit in the car and beep the horn waiting for my pokey husband to emerge. There was lots of yard working. And grilling. And too many hotdogs consumed to keep track of. And I am oh-so-thankful that last week is over so that I can start my summer. It was a good weekend.

Shooooeeeeeee!

It is June. June 2010. Which means I have a two-year-old in t-minus 25 days and that the year is halfway over. I feel like every post I write could include some reference to how quickly times seems to pass these days. It is motherhood? Age? A combo of both? I'm not sure but it's kind of scary.

Our summer kicks into full gear at 11:41am this Friday when I bid my kinderergarteners adieu. But I will see them all again. I will be their first grade teacher! I accepted a position last week to teach first grade and I'm looping. And for you non-education folk, that means that I am taking my current group of students to the next grade. Which is very exciting for me because I love my class and watching them grow over two years is going to be pretty neat. We'll see how I feel this time next year ;) I am lucky to have TWO in-house first grade teachers to learn from and steal borrow ideas from (hi Aunt Deb & Aunt Cindy!), so I feel like it's already in my blood. If you teach first grade, feel free to email me with ideas. I'd love to hear them!

Between now and mid-July our weekends are packed full. Weddings, vacations, holidays, grad school, moving classrooms, and spending lots of time at the pool will keep us plenty busy. Plus, since I'm working fulltime in the fall, I want to devote as much time as possible to Becks. So, blogging has to take a back burner. It's hard to devote creative energy to blogging when I'm already spread thin doing a zillion other things. I'll try to check in often and still blogstalk daily, but I can't guarantee to post regularly. I hope you'll continue to read and comment. I really do enjoy connecting with you all!

Happy Memorial Day!

We just got back from the Lake, so not much time to talk as I have to leave to watch Ali wear something yellow on The Bachelorette tonight. I'm sorry I'm not around for #ATFT, but watching with my IRL friends is fun too! And gives me some much needed girl time.

Anyway, Becks first time in the pool this year was a splashin' good time. Footage was shot at Nana & Papa M's pool earlier today. Hilarious. He was a little fish, and acted like he's been swimming forever! We were impressed. Anyway, here's our little jumper!

Bye Bye Bunny...

Stop. The. World. You are not even going to believe it. Today is a monumental day in the Babbling Household. Today, my friends, I will watch The Hills and The City in realtime. Today, my husband will plug into Animal Planet. Today, we will retire the bunny years.

Yes, today, WE GOT CABLE.

Shocking, I know, but this frugal mama thought that $15 extra a month added on to our cable internet bill wasn't that big of a deal. It's kind of like a rite of passage, right? After 4 years of marriage (yup, 4 years this coming Friday!), we can now have people over to watch sports games and not be embarrassed when the wind blows and our reception goes with it :)

In other news, we also had a $300 plumbing fiasco. But when the plumber initially thought it was going to be $2500 jack-hammer job in the basement, $300 seemed like pennies. Being a home owner is superfun.

Lastly, to recap our weekend quickly, we went to a totally fab housewarming party at Dr. B's. And with the amount of stress I'm experiencing these days, a night with some of our fav couples was just what the doctor ordered. Let me just tell you, that dog's name is Cassius Clay (nickname: Clay) and 100 points goes to the person that can tell me why. It's clever.

My cousin and her family also were in this weekend and stayed with us. Becks and Paisley got along great and we can't wait to see them at the cabin in a few weeks!

Grad Class numero uno ends on Friday, so I'll have a little less on my plate for a week before my summer courses kick in. School's out in seven days! Yippee!!!!!
