Anyone? Anyone?

Hi all. B and I are looking to replace our ANCIENT air conditioning unit this summer. I can't seem to find anywhere on the internet that tells me how much this bad boy is going to cost without first asking me to proffer my telephone number, address, and firstborn child. I just need an estimate for goshdarn sake, and no I don't want you to stalk me with harassing courtesy calls during dinner to see if we're ready yet to buy a unit yet.
Anyway, if you could help me out by telling me how much you spent to replace your HVAC, it would be greatly appreciated. Anything to avoid actually calling someone who will inevitably convince me that they need to stop by just to show me a presentation. Know what I'm sayin'?
Thanks in advance :)

We put in AC last year and got several quotes ranging from 14,000 to 7,000. No one wanted to give us a quote without coming out to take a look at it first. We had some other work done at the same time so I can't say what was labor and what was the charge for the unit. Sorry! My advice, get several quotes. The size of the unit will also effect the price...

Oh. My. Gosh. That is INSANE! We may be toughing it out in the heat if it's going to be $14,000!!!!! Whew!

I agree to get several estimates. I know that AC units are different than heat units but we had quotes ranging from $2500-$7K for our heat. Crazy huh?

We bought a home warranty when we moved in, I believe it's $550 a year but it's like insurance for your appliances, a/c, heat etc. So we pay $0-$75 for someone to fix our problem, if something needs to be replaced it will either be just the service charge of $50-75 or 1/2 the price of the unit needed. My mom swears by it, she got her washer, dryer, and pool filter all for almost nothing.
We had a plumber come out and fix three problems for us and it was only $60.
Ours is American Home Shield, so maybe google it and see if you can find one you like, it might be worth it in the end, rather than spending $7-14K!

i'm with Nat. and sorry, i know nothing about anything home related. but if worse comes to worse and you can't afford one right away, would a few fans and a window unit in the bedroom be SO terrible?

I have no idea what anything costs... but I just wanted to tell you I'm stressed for you! It blows my mind how much things cost!

Hey, Abby!

We had a new central heat and air unit put in the summer before Josh and Michelle's wedding. The cost (including installation) was around $2800.
