Read with caution. This blog might be contagious.

I was really going to try to NOT post about illness, since every post I've written for the past week has pertained to germ bugs, but I don't think I can avoid it.  Mainly because I bought one of these little friends tonight...

My review: meh.  Personally, I can do with or without draining snot via a teapot.

And, if you're looking for a way to get a really worried look from your 2-year-old, totally pour water out your nose right in front of him.  He kept rubbing the hand I was bracing on the sink saying, It's okay, mommy.  You're okay.  I kept having to explain that, though gross and disgusting, it did not hurt.

Besides providing me with an awkward mental image that will continue to humble me for years to come (because can you really can't be vain while looking in a mirror at yourself while water pours out a nostril), it provided only temporary relief and a salty after taste.  I couldn't avoid swallowing a little bit while I was laughing at the whole situation.

Also, I felt a bit like a magician.  Watch me as I magically pour water out my nose.  Oooh!  Ahhhh!

I imagine that if my sisters had been present, I would have not been able to accomplish the Neti Pot because I would either drown myself or laugh until I peed my pants.  {Note to Chels and Aubs: Let's have a Neti Pot pouring party next time we're all in town together.  It might be as fun as watching me try out the Medela breast pump for the first time.  Except less awkward.}

Happy Monday, friends!

Oh Abby, it took me a few tries to get the hang of it, but I love my Netti Pot now. It does clear you up & dry up the snot. It has been a lifesaver for me. Give it a try.

I used one a few weeks ago for the first time to combat a killer sinus infection. It did seem to work a bit, but I agree, if I had done it in the presence of anybody else we would have laughed until all of the liquid going down my nose was snorted back into my sinus cavities:).

Oh man... this thing SAVED my life this winter!! I have a coworker who swears by them, and I had to try it out for myself. I will never think twice about using one the next time my head feels like it's going to explode!

I hope the sickies leave your home soon, soon, soon!

I highly suggest the NediMedi, which can be bought at Costco (with the salt packets) for much less money. It is more of a squeeze bottle, which is more effective than the pot and it works great for kids. My three kids have been using them for 3+ years (ages 9 and twin boys ages 6) and they actually ask to do it when they are really stuffy. It might seem gross, but when you see how much comes out of their nose, you know you are helping them get better (better than listening to them try and sniff it back up). Really, my boys have been doing it since they were 3! Next time, try it in the shower.

If we were stranded on a desert island, this might be one of our items...

P.S. I'm not a granola hippy gal...just a kindergarten teacher who used to get sinus infections all the time.

My roomie swears by it. I finally got up the courage to try it after not even being able to watch when she did it. She says it really helps prevent her from getting sick...I only ever did it the one time though...yuck!
